HE R E

In 2019, Sophie-Yukiko started the art project "HE R E". The aim was to create art, that shows the vulnerable side of the marginalized. Of those, who still get denied access to various spaces and resources. "HE R E" shows the sadness that concludes out of discrimination and how a collective or a community helps itself and provides protection and comfort to itself to overcome depression.

Her art film concept ultimately found support at Bode Museum Berlin, where a motion image piece called "HE R E" was produced and shot in April 2019.

The film and the photography series, captured by Svenja Trierschied, starring the European chapter of the collective "House of Saint Laurent", was published by MONOPOL Magazine

As a continuation, in September 2019, Sophie-Yukiko brought a Performance Art piece, also titled "HE R E" to the museum.

In the 45-minute long Performance, Sophie-Yukiko "installed" 18 performers alongside herself, all members of the Ballroom Community. More than 500 people watched the piece, that showed performers all throughout the rooms of the institution, performing where and how different symptoms of depression manifest within the bodies of marginalized people and communities.

To proceed with "HE R E", Sophie-Yukiko would like the performance to move to other cities and spaces to recreate it with local performers, so that they get to (re)claim their own local structures and spaces and make themselves visible.
